Classical concert pianist Réa Beaumont is one of Canada’s finest musicians whose performances have been described as “deeply moving” and “dramatic and captivating”.
Winner of the highly competitive Canada Council Award for Mid-Career Artists, Réa is also the recipient of awards from the Government of Canada, the British Columbia Arts Council, the Canadian Federation of University Women and The Banff Centre for the Arts.
Réa is committed to performing music of our time and has premiered nearly 40 new works as a pianist and conductor. Collaborations include Juno-Award winning composer Chan Ka Nin, Walter Buczynski recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Medal, electro-acoustic specialist David Ogborn, jazz musician Kurt Ellenberger, composer-in-residence of the Windsor Symphony Brent Lee and Canadian icons Oskar Morawetz and Barbara Pentland.
Most recently, Dr. Beaumont’s solo commercial CD A Shrinking Planet was recorded at the Canadian Broadcasting Centre’s Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto, Canada, and released worldwide to critical acclaim. This recording of new music for solo piano received its inaugural broadcast on CBC Radio 2’s finest contemporary music program “Two New Hours” and continues to be aired in Europe and the Americas. Trained in the United States and Canada, Réa holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance with a secondary field in Conducting, Master of Music, Bachelor of Music in Music Education (Hons), Artist Diploma and is an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music. Mentors include pianists Anton Kuerti, Robert G. Rogers, Marek Jablonski and Conductor James Fankhuaser (Vancouver Cantata Singers).
Dr. Beaumont is a member of the Toronto Musicians’ Association, the Music Teachers National Association and the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada.
